The Size of the Moon

Bright and blinding light met my eyes
as I slowly stepped into the night
Moonlight cascading down upon me from the skies

Fast and fading light now hangs low
as I slowly [bad word] my way back home
Back to you, I know is how I'll escape this gloom

And without a single word
I feel my vision blurred
From my eyes tears
Fall freely coloring the earth

But I wipe my tears away
Darkness gives way to day
Borne from my sorrow, the strength to have hope, of my own!

How much more must I endure this pain
'til pain is nothing but a distant thought
Reflected in my blood, a crimson stain
An image of someone whose spirit's all but gone

Pushing the ground away
only to fall again
I stare up at the sky wondering

What is [bad word] emptiness
but to not even have a past
This very moment is all I have

Covering my eye with one hand
I hold my fingers up towards the expanse
Of gently floating clouds where a dazzling moon once danced

Pulling that thought up in my mind
The unusually bright moon of last night
I trace and trace, until the memory has lost its shape.

And as I stand alone
Fear grasping at my throat
I steel my nerve

How much more can I endure this pain
Until even the moon begins to wane

When racing towards my dreams
