08. The demise woven from within a birdcage

‘The sky is so far away, no matter how I reach for it I cannot touch it.
I was made to live in the care of a certain country’s noble.
The only thing I was permitted to do was sing.’

Freezing night and mercilessly visiting darkness.
The birdcage continues to swing soundlessly.
She hoped night would end soon,
so that she could sing that song for the world again.

silver-coloured dome and a gaudy bell tower.
Standing by the window is the servant without an insignia.
Missing illusions and the scales of [bad word] dawn.
She will weave together a blessing in the celestial language.

transient voice and a clear sky cleaved by scarlet.
She forgot her longing for freedom the moment she was born.
She spent her days in the shackles called protection.
When was it that she lost her wings?

‘These people are under the selfish delusion that
they can only be blessed with the message if it’s in the language of angels.
What meaning can there be to the blessings that I sing?
I want to be saved too.’

'The melody echoes far, and whoever pleads their hopes to the sky, flies.
They fly towards a sky they can never reach.
The light that shines from the cracks between clouds is as [bad word] as it is gentle…’

Days of suspicion and mercilessly withering flowers.
The birdcage continued to [bad word] disgrace her.
She hoped night would end soon,
so that she could sing quietly again.

An hourglass without sand and a decaying corridor.
Standing by the window, smiling, was the one-eyed servant.
Missing emotions and a tipped scale.
She will weave together demise in the celestial language.

The sky will fall, and this world will rot.
But before that, I want to weave together demise my way.
And so now, I will put my heart in these words
and sing towards the blue sky.
