When I was a little girl my mama told me not to worry
when the other kids were mean to me
when I was a little girl my daddy took me roller-skating
we were getting ready for a holiday in the snow

and I believed him, but it was just a tree,
and he laughed at me

and when their friends came over they would sometimes let me play

I would play piano and my dad was on guitar 
and I would giggle so much that I could hardly play

Me and my mama used to joke around in the car 
when we were driving to different places
and I would laugh at her 
and she would laugh at me

Putting dresses on the kittens,
making mazes for the chickens,
there was nothing better than playing with my sisters

and life was kind of easy
but I know the road I’m walking 
takes me somewhere that I’d like to be
