The Breakers (исполнитель: Brokedown Cadillac)

The good town pastor said it was the result
Of a wicked man, it wasn't her fault, see
Her daddy cast a long shadow for a little man
So she up and went with a big black eye, a stolen [bad word] And a long-haired guy, who wasn't any better Than her daddy as she soon learned
Six months of living outta Abilene, no hot water,
No wedding ring, her hopes and dreams ran away
With a waitress from town
But he didn't leave her entirely alone
She had desperation and a dead cell phone,
She found out she was in a family way
Six more months of scrapin' by, taking handouts
From the ladies at the women's “Y”
She left a nameless baby on the steps of a church

Heaven help me now my knees are weak
There's only two footprints in the sand and they're both from me
The water may be blue, but it's awful deep and I`ve very few
Reasons to stop me from swimming out past the breakers

So she took a Greyhound two states south
To the Galveston shores where she found out
He was living by the beach but all she found was the sand
Her vision blurred as she stared at the gulf
She'd known hard times, but this was rough
She'd always had a fear of the sea and it was calling her name
Six more months of thumbing rides
She got lost in Vegas and to her surprise
Found the sun was colder in the desert than the winter inside

Heaven help me now my knees are weak
There's only two footprints in the sand and they're both from me
The water may be blue, but it's awful deep and I've very few
Reasons to stop me from swimming out past the breakers

Oh, Lord can you let me in
I'm tired now and I don't mean to sin
I can't seem to get things right, and I think it's time to sleep
She heard the ocean still calling her name
And her neon life was driving her insane,
So she loaded up a taxi and tipped him everything that she had
She dropped her bags at an old Good Will
That was two blocks off the Santa Monica pier
She took off all her clothes and paddled for the edge of the sky

Heaven help me now my arms are weak
I can barely stay afloat now, then I see
homeless man on the shore, I'd swear was Jesus
Could I have one more, chance to make it back on past the breakers
(Breakers, breakers)

It was dark when she woke on the edge of the sand
remembered that she'd felt a hand
Pull her from the deep of the sea.
