6. M83 - Unrecorded
Sounding for all the world like a digital My Bloody Valentine, [bad word] swarming out of the gates on M83’s most [bad word] album to date. Although we have chosen here to highlight “Unrecorded,” it is difficult to think of this song without also hearing its predecessor “Birds” in our minds, its vocorder proclamation that “Birds are singing… and I am flying” providing the perfect pretext for the soaring synths of this piece. And thus the track ignites without a care in the world, its unbridled ambition and cunning creativity leading the four minutes of sonic bliss and tantalizing audial stimuli. Without a doubt, this is one of the most emotionally-charged works of electronica ever made. (Tom Butcher)
