There are at least four distinct phases which we go through over the course of about ninety minutes. The cycle starts with “deep sleep,” where the body is nearly paralyzed, and brain activity slows to a crawl. Slowly our brains [bad word] more active, until we eventually reach REM, or “rapid eye movement” sleep. Here our brains engage in a flurry of activity and our neurons are ablaze with dreams, before dropping back down into deep sleep. In the same way, Aries begins with a slow, drawn-out bass note but gradually builds this sleepy and relaxing motive into an enormous surge of energy. The song shows a gradual but continuous build, waking the listener from paralysis and forcing him to attend to the song. Simply put, this is the stuff dreams are made of. (Tom Butcher)
